Cannot delete a file

Hi I have been trying to delete a file that is placed on a network drive. but the cannot delete the file. tried to replace it with a different file. But that did not work either. the reason might be that the file on a netowrk drive and some one has the executable running. Is there any way that I can find the system that is actually accessing that file and close the process of that executable in task manager.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sid.

easiest way:

Login into the system which is sharing this file.

Go to the local drive which is shared.

Delete if from there. If this don't work, unshare it temp. and delete it then.

  • Goto the server where the file is shared and open up Mangement Tools > Shared Folders > Open files. You should see the file being open be someone (hopefully!), nuke the file open connection and delete the file.

If you dont see it open there, then the OS will have it locked - remove the share, reboot and try nuking it again.

Err, hopefully that will do it, there are few other ways, but try that first.
