KACE Product Support

This appears to be a known issue that is fixed in 5.3 L10N AP1 release (not released yet)
This case looks like where only 1 WMI class (i.e. Win32_ComputerSystem) is corrupted/inaccessible to agent. 5.3 agent collects hostname info from Win32_ComputerSystem class and if only one class is inaccessible, then K1 agent will not detect this and hence will not report it as a WMI corruption. Hence inventory.xml will be generated with blank hostname. This issue is addressed in bug AGENT-1781 where agent is no longer dependent only on Win32_ComputerSystem to fetch hostname information.
Your options are to try to repair the wmi repository or make sure the SYSTEM account has access to WMI or try to restart the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service on the machine to see if it fixes the corruption if any. If that fails then you could try to remove 5.3 agent and use a 5.1 agent.

To test WMI (before or after your repair run this at a command line:
wmic path win32_computersystem
It should spit out the DNSHostname and the Name value

We are doing WMI calls into the machines. if you have tried the troubleshooting and they are checking in but no inventory, you definitely should contact Dell/KACE Support for assistance.

We have narrowed it down to a computer setting on the actual image. We created a machine from scratch, and it checks in fine. The problem with that is what about the 50 that are already broken by the old image. We cannot not find out what setting is breaking it!!! Kace support has been less than helpful....

Can you post the amp.conf file from one of these problematic machines?

Right near the bottom, I see this:

So, the good thing is that this machine is connecting, and also uploading inventory. Can you search through the K1000 Log for KUID A58F6A15-710C-4BB2-93C9-64EEB8889CC7 ? That could tell you something also....

Here is the line in the server log. Its rejecting due to blank name. Looking at the inventory.xml i see the below entries are blank, and are not on normal machines.

Ok making progress after comparing a good inventory.xml and the bad machines. The very first line with the computer name "<NAME />" is completely blank on the problematic machines. On the good machines it has the actual computer name. What setting in windows would not allow the inventory to pull in the computer name?

I'm having precisely the same issue. Let me know if you found a way to resolve it...

willie, dsrgtc is running into the same problem and the OS is XP SP2. What OS is running on the problematic group of machines?

Our problematic machines are running XP SP3.

Did the WMI repository rebuild, and some WMI troubleshooting. Nothing worked. Reinstalling SP3 now. Where would I get the 5.1 agent? We only have the new 5.3.

I had the same problem of "BAD_MAC_IP" as well as there is no inventory.xml under c:\ProgramData\Quest\Kace and no *.xml under c:\ProgramData\Quest\Kace\kbots_cache.  First thing I notice is when I run cmd promp as an administrator to check winmgmt it came back with an error on the machine that has problems to be in the inventory. I had to fix winmgmt first by adding PATH variable (;C:\Windows\System32\wbem\;) to my windows Environment Variables (not sure why it got missing).  After that I had to manually update the inventory file by running the following command in the cmd.

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest\KACE
runkbot.exe 3 0

runkbot.exe 4 0

runkbot.exe 3 0 will update the kbots cache

runkbot.exe 4 0 will update kbox

After that in Kace I will run discovery and the "Force inventory" option would be available.
