Deploy KACE image from USB Hard Drive

I need to be able to deploy our Windows 8 image via external hard drive as we have some Surface Pro's and they do not have an optical drive or an ethernet port. I have tried following the instruction from this post: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/deploying-images-from-usb-devices-with-the-kace-2000 but when I run the KBE USB installer it says the volume is too large. I have an 80GB HDD and I have tried creating smaller partions on the drive but that doesn't matter since the install script does a DISKPART CLEAN ALL. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work? All I have are 8GB USB sticks and they are too small for the Windows 8 image. Thanks in advance!

  • If you can boot to a KBE successfully, you can capture the image and save it. Then you don't have to store it on your 8 GB usb drive. - nheyne 11 years ago
  • There is currently no OS on the surface pro tablet. I can get it to boot with the UEFI KBE USB i have but since it doesn't have any network connection it can't get to the k2000. I am trying to deploy an image to the Surface Pro and not capture from it. Hope this helps clarify things. - sburkey2 11 years ago
    • You would need a usb to ethernet dongle in that scenario. - nheyne 11 years ago
      • OK, do you know if there any brands that are compatible with the Surface or should any work? - sburkey2 11 years ago
  • It's in that first link, but here it is: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.276582800?WT.mc_id=FY13WinHH&WT.mc_id=FY13WinHH
I believe you can only get it from a MS store. - nheyne 11 years ago
    • Thanks! We are hopefully getting approval to purchase that adapter and a usb hub. - sburkey2 11 years ago
  • have you created the iso image as a bootable USB disc - lefty80 11 years ago
    • That is also a good option: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool - nheyne 11 years ago
    • I tried the tool nheyne provided but it doesn't make it UEFI bootable so the Surface doesn't recognize it. - sburkey2 11 years ago
      • That's true it wouldn't make it UEFI. - nheyne 11 years ago
  • Thanks everyone for your help/input. I am hoping to get the USB to Ethernet adapter and a usb hub so I can try to image the Surface that way. :) - sburkey2 11 years ago
