Yes we switched the enitre college including the students from groupwise to a company gmail setup. You can email jwebb or llawson @tmcc.edu (the server gods) for the ups and downs of the conversion, they handled it.  Just tell them smal referred you to them.  We even use saml for SSO for the staff and you use a browser to connect, so from the production/desktop side it was no work.

I've used it in a small business setup and it works great. Not to mention all the integrated features/tools that come with Google products.

I should add...small business was just a couple of friends with an @ydomain.com email address for collaborating.
