How to smoothly migrate towards Windows 10?
How to smoothly migrate towards Windows 10?
In 2014, we have migrated away from Windows XP towards Windows 7 pro.
We did that with a Fresh Image install with KACE keeping certain (Office, Desktop) user-settings.
Kace Technical guy's advice however was to use scripted install. But our users population are using for 85% the same and common software tools.
During the coming months we will look after a way to migrate our 360 Desktops (no Portables in the Domain) towards Windows 10.
Wich are the good advices, pitfalls, tips ... to make this a success story?

1. running a report which systems are able to run W10.
2. build new labels for them that this is a nightly rollout.
3. update BIOS/network firmware to the latest versions (it was completely Dell)
4. create the SI for the basic installation
4.1 collect the USMT offline
4.2 install OS
4.3 install USMT
5. setup the new systems labels for the different branches to install the right software to them
6. test this on one machine in each branch
7. setup automatic boot options for the systems which need to be installed
8. run WOL at night to these machines
9. auto install OS, kick into the domain, install the software for the standard devices.
10. repeat 7-9 until all machines are installed.
It were over 10k nodes all over the country and some foreign too.
We finished over 99% during the 4 weeks and the remaining were installed "by hand" (booted by hand by local staff since the owners were sick)
I would wait for K2000 4.1 since then you can also collect USMT with the RSA appliances so you don't need to upload the USMT over small connections.
