I seem to have broken the link between inventory and asset management
hopefully someone can help. How does the link between Inventory and Asset management work. I was under the impression that if a device was found in inventory then it would create a matching asset record.
What has to be set up in Asset Management to make this happen (e.g. does the sub category have to match)
I changed the Asset Category (e.g. for Servers to Hardware/Server). It appears that it has not been maintaining any of the asset information despite these devices being in inventory.
Can I fix this (my key reason is that in asset management i would like to relate the Servers to the software applications that are running on them.

You will want to go to " Asset Management > Asset Types > Device (or computer) to display the "Asset Type Detail " page.
When the "Mapped Inventory Field:" and "Matching Asset Field:" are configured when the device initially connects, an asset should be created automatically for that device.
For example if the "Mapped Inventory Field:" is set to "System Name" " and the "Matching Asset Field:" is set to "Name"
an asset will be created for that device using the System Name as the name for the Asset.
What is your current settings?
If you click on a device name on from the Inventory -> Devices list page. Scroll down the "Device Detail:" page and expand the Asset Information under "Asset". It should show a Asset Name and a link to edit that asset. If not, there is no associated asset for this device.

Thanks for that. The corollary of that is that when a device disappears (for what ever reason) how are the asset records kept up to date. E.g. there are 2300 devices in Inventory and 6500 devices in the Asset register. - kiwiblue 4 years ago
