K1000 Software Catalog & Licenses
Hello
I am trying to work better with the software catalog and its features. Does any one know if its possible for the K1000 to email a notification if a piece of software goes over it's license threshold. For example , if I have 5 installs of Adobe acrobat and 5 licenses but if a 6th is installed - an email warning is generated?

Question for you: Have you gone through the tutorial and linked LICENSE assets to Software within the software category.
It would look to me that if you filled out the licenses (which I don't know how you did that, as there are two methods, and we have DIFFERENT licenses so I had to attach multiple assets to 1 software catalog entry) but you should be able to run the canned report called: "Software Catalog - Software Compliance" to get an idea.
You can schedule that report to run and then on the schedule you can tell it not to run if there results are NULL (so if nothing is out of compliance, you won't get swamped with emails like Nshah described above).
I would think you would only need this report to run once a day or two as I can't imagine there is so much software installation going that it needs to run every 15 minutes :P
(it's hard to dive further into that because the software catalog data tables don't seem to be accessible via Mysql? I'm about to open up a question in regards to that....)
Keep in mind the alerts aren't real time. Minimum is 15 minutes and they go out no matter if you are over or not. If you want alerts and are going to send them only once a day, I would use the canned report to send out or create one if possible through the wizard or custom SQL. - nshah 11 years ago
