I'm concerned about plugging the KBOX 1000 into our network, does anyone know what the commonly scanned ports are and how the Kbox installs the agent on the nodes?

It's not going to do anything until you configure it to do so. You have several options for agent deployment - one of which is automated provisioning by the KBOX.
