KACE UI Errors in Off Hours
Hi -
Kace works great all day long but I experience issues when I log-on in the evening. I can enter my credentials and log on, but am sometimes then unable to navigate around the application. For example, last night was fine but tonight I get errors. Is KACE performing some automatic maintenance that locks tables, for example? Are my credentials cached in Citrix and somehow not refreshing?
I am connecting on the commute home and at night via Citrix, then launch IE and navigate to the kbox. We have no https on the site currently.
These tabs/pages work ok:
- Home (Guided Tour, Summary, Label)
- Security (Patching, Oval)
- Settings (all sub tabs/pages appear to load OK)
These generate a pop-up message in IE and state that it cannot open the Internet site http://kbox.mycompany.com/admin Operation aborted
- Home, Support tab
- Security (Secure Browsers)
- Inventory
- Asset
- Distribution
- Scripting
- Security
- Service Desk
- Reporting
Cheers,
- Allen

DB Maintenance is happening at 2AM. If that's not when you're experiencing issues check your server load average (Agent Settings). Also check the System Performance logs; are there heavy loads during the evening hours? Could be patch job(s) or script(s) targeted for too many machines, or maybe you've got several things set up to run in the off hours. The appliance will basically give priority to processing it's actual work and degrade performance to services like apache (web). Most likely you're running into a load balancing issue where you've defined a lot of work for it to do. Logs & load average are the best way to map this out usually.

Thanks Christopher -
We only just installed KACE in December and are working our way through Service Desk customizations. Thus, we only have a few staff using the app.
We have:
- a nightly ldap import at 1am
- a daily ticket rule that generates an email query, with under 50 results at 10am
- 3 or so PCs with agents reporting in. One of these has been v5.1.31821. We are in the process of getting these upgraded to 5.1.33668.
Errors were happening in early evening, say 8-10pm. In the performance log, I do see that we have a slow query that appears to run for about 3.5m (is this minutes?). It appears once every few days - and on the chart appears to be exactly the same length each time. The occurrence of this last slow query did correlate to when the error was, about 9pm.
I will keep an eye on it and see if I can correlate the slow query with errors going forward.
Thanks again,
- Allen
