KBOX Agent Ubuntu Support

When I was at the KACE user Konference earlier this month, an overwhelming number of customers raised their hands when the question was posed, "how many of you would like to see support for an Ubuntu agent?"

I've submitted an enhancement request and added my name to the list. If you'd like to see Ubuntu agent support, please submit an enhancement request as well to KACE Support and let them know which versions of Ubuntu you are running in your environment (for backward compatibility).

I'm a fan of Ubuntu, but the business application is a bit low for me. When it comes down to it I'd prefer more support for mobile platforms I think. That's the great debate though, how does Kace decide which platforms to focus on? The have a relatively small development staff and traditionally has done things very well. I'm afraid that if they try to branch into all of the smaller markets too quickly we might see a decrease in quality. None of us wants that, right?

The business application for Ubuntu is great, in my opinion. What better way to make Windows users more comfortable with a move to Linux than a user-friendly OS that is simple to use? I'm not saying KACE should create and support an Ubuntu agent if it means other areas of the KBOX will suffer. I simply want it on their roadmap, and apparently many other customers agree - based on what I saw at the Konference.

Ah, yes Andy- you're correct. Many folks are interested, I also raised my hand. I think it's going to make it onto the roadmap after the discussions at the Advisory Kouncil. I'll be pulling for you! I can't use Ubuntu in the business arena due to vendors that refuse to build my critical apps on Linux or Mac platforms, but I'm all over it at home :)

No. I tried and didn't have any luck with alien. I also spent some time trying to manually install it, but I've had no luck.

If you want an Ubuntu agent, put in a Support ticket for an enhancement request so they can add you to the list.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
