Multiple versions of Symantec are listed as installed, but they are not

Our KACE system is showing two Windows 7 machines as having multiple versions of Symantec. Machine 1 has two versions, the other machine shows it as having as seven!

I uninstalled Symantec from Machine 2 and did a Force Inventory in KACE. The data did not change and it still shows seven different versions.
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.2015.2015)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.4013.4013)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.4112.4156)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.6318.6100)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.7004.6500)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.7061.6600)
Symantec Endpoint Protection (14.0.1904.0000)

System Model: Latitude E6520
Operating System Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise
Service Pack: Service Pack 1

Has anyone encountered this? I want to track down the problem before I resort to re-imaging, just to make sure its not something corrupt in KACE.
thank you for any advice.

Have you checked the registry on the 2 machines? I'd wager that there's some cruft left from old installations. A simple script will tidy up.

  • That sounds like a good idea. i'm in there now. I see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SYMANTEC\SYMANTEC ENDPOINT PROTECTION. And there is a PRODUCTVERSION listed for every one that KACE is reporting. I wonder which key KACE is looking at? - thefishyfew 7 years ago
  • I deleted everything I could from the registry after I did a backup. Then I ran CCleaner. There isn't anything related to Symantec on this machine but KACE still reports 7 versions. So, I am going to check into KACE and see if I can locate the problem there. - thefishyfew 7 years ago

reimaging was the fix but I still would like to know where KACE was getting its info from.
