Organize by Folders

Is there a way to create folders under the various KACE inventory screens?  In every screen that lists hundreds or even thousands of fields (such as under device or software inventory, label management, or reporting), it would be extremely useful to be able to create sub-folders and then manually move items into those folders.  For reporting, that is at least an option, as you can categorize your reports, but if there is an option to create folders, that would make it significantly easier to organize.

Not 100% sure what you are asking but no you can't create folders or change the GUI aspect. Areas in the KBOX allow you to create custom fields...etc but can't create folders like a file manager or anything. Unless I missed you point completely.

  • Pretty sure you got what I was asking. What I've run into is a situation where we're looking for something (for example, labels) and have to scroll through long lists of other items.

Labels are an especially good example; where there are 38 pre-generated system labels as well as all of the various labels we've created. Obviously this is going to teach us to put in some kind of identifier (I'm using one or more asterisks at the front of the labels now), but it would be useful if there were subfolders to organize these. - george.mattson@plansource.com 8 years ago

You must be referring to this section that you have to scroll down to and see all the labels assigned to that device.

If you are looking for machines that have a specific label, you can use the drop down on the right in Inventory and select Label and get the sub-menu and select the label you want to see but as far as moving anything under a device in Inventory around or creating folders, that's a no go.

You can also create label groups that nest labels down. They are for organization only but could used.

Example:
Label Group : LA Office
Labels : LA Desktops, LA Laptops, LA Servers
The labels can be organized under the label group LA Office so that way when you look at the drop down on the right in Inventory it will say, LA Office and once you highlight it the sub-menu wills how the LA desktop...etc

  • Actually, no.

Not sure on image formatting, but I'll try to put a screenshot up here.

In the event I have the format incorrect, the example I'm talking about is under Home / Label Management / Labels, and shows a list of 138 labels, including 38 pre-generated system labels, including "Patch- Application- Adobe - All Titles - Windows (English)," as an example.

What I'd like to see is an option to create folders in that location, so that I could archive those 38 labels as well as create folders for other purposes (such as a folder for servers, another for laptops, one for patches, etc.). That capability would also be very useful (IMO) in other locations, such as in Inventory, Reporting, Managed Installations, and so forth. - george.mattson@plansource.com 8 years ago
    • Sorry that can't be done the. You can use label groups as I mentioned to organize but they will always be listed individually like that, unless KACE changes it's mind. - nshah 8 years ago
      • No worries, and thanks. The label groups will work. Not as elegantly as I'd like, but at least it's an option.

My OCD just goes nuts when I see 138 labels, and I know it's just going to get worse as we get further into deployment. - george.mattson@plansource.com 8 years ago
  • Sorry - just realized there was an option to insert a picture into the original post, but not in followup comments. Screenshot added for clarity. - george.mattson@plansource.com 8 years ago
