Report on machine missing file

Hello World!

I have create a txt file that installs on the root of c: containing the date, version, etc of an image. How do I create a report to verify all machines have this image? In other words, I need a report showing which machines do not have this file. Any ideas?

kuedan,

You can do this with a Custom Inventory rule to look for the existence of a file:
FileExists(C:\build_detail.txt)

You can also create multiple inventory rules if you want to match them to the various image version you have.

Thanks for the quick reply....
I have created a custom inventory rule, so how do I run a report showing who does not have that "custom" software installed? Is it a machine or software report?
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it...

You will create a report starting with "Computer", and then on page 2 of the wizard you will see "Custom Fields".

Alternatively, one thing I sometimes do is first create a computer Smart Label to build the SQL. Once you have the Smart Label created, you can use the SQL to create an SQL report. Sometimes easier than manually or using the wizard.

So if I create a smart label, then the software title would = the custom inventory? this would give me a list of machines with it installed. Or do I create it != custom inventory?
