Rule for users to change their KBOX password

Hello,

I'm looking for a rule that will allow the users to change their kbox password, is there anyway or a rule to do this?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I need to know a bit more about your environment... Do you have local KBOX accounts for everyone? Or are you using LDAP? If you're using LDAP then there is no way to change the AD passwords from the KBOX. If you are using local accounts in the KBOX, then the only way I can think of to create a rule to do this is to create a special queue for password resets or add a custom field to your existing queue. The rule would need to read the new password from the custom field and apply it to the database. However, you would also have to find out how passwords are encrypted in the database - they are NOT stored in plaintext.

In short, you are probably out of luck unless Dell KACE adds this functionality in the User Control Panel.

As Andy pointed out, you will not be able to change the AD passwords from the KBOX. If this is what you want to do, then there are self-help password reset programs out there that will allow users to change their AD password with having to call the helpdesk. I think a self-help password reset add-on for LDAP would be a great feature for the kbox.

They don't exist. There is no way for a user with a local account to reset their own password unless they have access to the Admin control panel and modify rights to the Users subcategory of the Help Desk.

You should submit a feature request for this, but it may not be added for quite a while - if ever. Dell KACE adds features based on community requests. The more people asking for something, the sooner it is implemented.

Not that I am aware of. Most of the self-help password reset software are for Active Directory. It ties in with AD. There may be something out there but you would need to find a way to tie it into the kbox, which probably is not possible as far as I know.

Nothing out there will be able to tie into the KBOX. Our remote access to the KBOX, as customers, is strictly limited to Read-Only. So, any such utility would have to be built into the KBOX.

Thank you all for the information.

Yeah that is true. It is read-only. That would make it a little hard to change something like a password! [:D]

There is an enhancement in our system about this for local accounts. Please open a ticket if you wish to tie yourself to it.
