Secure Wipe / Erase Tool

Our computer policy requires that we securely erase the drives of our computers before we redistribute them to another user. Do you have any suggestions on a tool that I can use with the K2000 to securely wipe the drive as a preinstallation task before deploying an operating system to the computer?

jrscribner,

You can use the tool Eraser in its portable form (http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/eraser_portable), zip it up as a pre installation application task and in the commandline use the switches that it has available.

I found my command line switches for Eraser Portable, the location of eraser.exe may vary for you, also not the drive letter.

start /wait eraserl.exe -disk c: -method DoD -silent

Comments:
  • I've tried this and I get the following error message:

The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present. I zipped eraser.exe eraserl.exe and eraser.dll together. Any ideas? - lysinger 10 years ago
    • Usually that error indicates you are running a 32bit app in a 64bit boot environment, which winpe does not support. - cserrins 10 years ago
  • In 3.6, the commandline would be:
eraserl.exe -disk c: -method DoD -silent - cserrins 10 years ago
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
