Sequencing SQL 2012 Client tools using App-V 5.0 | "Invalid license data. Reinstall required" error

Hello,

We have recently purchased App-V product and trying to sequence a few frequently used applications. I have been trying to sequence "SQL 2012 Client Tools", the sequencing process goes fine, but when I launch the published application from the App-V client, it throws the error "Invalid license data. Reinstall required."

I am suspecting that the application is unable to read the licensing information, but not sure how to fix it. I tried using procmon while launching the application to see where it's failing, but couldn't find any clue. I opened the .appv file to see if we can set permissions on the visual studio registry hive (similar to lockpermissions in MSI), but there is no such option.

I tried the workarounds mentioned in the below links (replacing mavVak2008.dll...etc), but none helped. So thought of checking with the experts here to see if anyone made success in sequencing SQL 2012 client using App-V 5.0.

Did you ever achieve success in sequencing SQL 2012 tools with AppV 5?

  • Hi, I am sorry for the delayed response. It's been a long time logging into the ITNinja forum. BTW, regarding the SQL 2012 sequencing success with App-V, the answer is NO.

However, per Microsfot support this can be possible by following thebelow steps:

    Steps:

    - Prepare your sequencer.
    - Start a new package.
    - Install the following components in this exact order:
    o Visual Studio 2010 FULL!!!
    o SP1 for Visual Studio 2010.
o The fix from KB2526163 to fix Visual Studio License issues in App-V.
o Then install SQL 2012 as you are used to.

    - Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Isolated) Redistributable Package

    - Then I applied Visual Studio 2010 SP1:

Let me know if this works for you.
