Third question, if you answered yes to the second question - did you read KB977534 fully?

 Note If you use a USB keyboard on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you must apply hotfix 2526967 after you apply hotfix 977534. Yes, I did read the KB fully. I got the error when I tried to install the first one.

I got it to work. I installed that second autologon about the USB keyboard and it worked when sitting at the computer. BUT we also wanted to be able to do it using VNC. I changed a couple of Registry settings - ForceAutologon=0 and ForceUnlockLogon=1. I tried different combinations of that and this was what worked.
