Shift does not override autologon

We used this all the time with XP, but that does not work in Windows 7. I found a hotfix on the Microsoft site (kb977534-x64) which I downloaded and ran but I get the error "The update is not applicable to your computer." I am baffled. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Silly, but must be asked - you are running x64 of Windows 7?

Second question, are you using a USB kb?

Third question, if you answered yes to the second question - did you read KB977534 fully?

From the KB.

Note If you use a USB keyboard on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you must apply hotfix 2526967 after you apply hotfix 977534. For more information about hotfix 2526967, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:2526967 The Shift key does not override the automatic logon setting on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Yes, I did read the KB fully. I got the error when I tried to install the first one.

Thanks

I got it to work. I installed that second autologon about the USB keyboard and it worked when sitting at the computer. BUT we also wanted to be able to do it using VNC. I changed a couple of Registry settings - ForceAutologon=0 and ForceUnlockLogon=1. I tried different combinations of that and this was what worked.

Thanks for taking the time to research this for me
