software assets and license tracking

Hi folks.

I am just getting my feet wet with this aspect of the K1000. I have read through and performed many of the steps to create an asset and 'meter' it. Now what I was led to believe it that I would be able to track licensing for Office or OS's, etc. It is just me not knowing the 'how to'.

Would anyone have a few tips on this subject?

Thanks in advance.

I would try to look in here:
http://www.kace.com/support/kb/index.php?action=artikel&cat=61&id=787&artlang=en

and I'm sure if you search around this forum you will be able to find the way to pull out windows and office keys in custom inventories if you need to keep track of that aswell =)

Metering is used to tell you who actually uses software - it isn't really going to help with license reporting. You'll use assets and reports for that. The purpose of metering is to tell you who has X software installed but has not used it in N number of days so you can uninstall it to free up a license.
