Unable to delete asset subtype fields

Hello,

Under Asset Management > Asset Types > Device > Laptop (subtype of Device) there are Subtype Fields like name, description, user, etc. There are some printer toner related fields that can be moved around but there is not a way to delete these erroneous fields. Not sure how these fields were added as that was before my time. I am interested in hearing any tips on how to go about deleting these unneeded fields. I can't edit these fields either so any guidance would be welcome. Thank you!

That is probably because as an asset subtype the asset subtype inherits fields from the main asset type, in this case the Device Asset type. This means that you are unable to remove those field at the subtype level.

When you created the subtype of Asset you would have seen the inherited fields

The "Device" Type and "Laptop" Subtype are the built in asset types. I don't think the laptop subtype was created while the device type had those fields.

Apparently the subtype fields were not there at the time the SMA was deployed, but they were added in sometime later, by accident. I thought we might not be able to delete the subtype fields because there were assets that had data in those fields. However after deleting those assets there was still no option to delete the fields.
