USMT - roaming profiles
Hello,
I am struggling with the user states on our K2000 box.
In our environment we use roaming profiles for our users. USMT and the K2000 can't get the profiles from the central location on the server ( \\servername\profileshare ), it can only get user states directly from computers.
Is there a way to retrieve the XP profiles from the central location on the server, or is it just impossible ?
Also, when I send a user state inventory to a computer, the K2000 lists all the local profiles on the target PC. But if I only select one of the profiles it copies all of them. Is this a bug ?
Thanks for your answer and best regards,
Olivier

If you use roaming profiles, then what is your purpose behind backing them up in the K2000? We don't use roaming profiles, but I am sure there is some command line utility that can configure a roaming profile on a newly built system.
We don't use the profile backup on the K2000, because it doesn't work with RSAs. However, just from the sound of things this is probably a bug.

Well I know how USMT works, and I know it doesn't support roaming profiles (I've done numerous extended tests befoire posting here).
My worry is that when the Kace commercial guy came for his demo, I explicitely asked him if the Kbox could handle migrating XP roaming profiles to Win7, and he said "yes, without problem".
In practice what I can see is that the kbox as standard just supports USMT with local profiles, so not added value at all. Unless there is a non standard option / application to add or script, as for the computer naming / join domain ?

As far as I know, the K2000 simply uses USMT 4... so it isn't going to have any added ability for roaming profiles. If there is some hidden method for doing this, you'd need to talk to Dell KACE support. If the guy promised that you'd have no issues, then I'd be contacting him - especially if that was the primary or sole reason for your purchase.
