XP SP3 deployment through policy....

Trying to install SP3 onto some XP machines, and ran into some issues using Software Deployment in Group Policy. First was the timeout, which I got around by editing a registry setting -- MaxGPOScriptWait to 0 (unlimted). Now that I have the timeout, I deployed SP3 to a system and it was installing for 3 hours, with no end in site. I finally rebooted the machine manually (poweroff) and it came up and had SP3 installed.

What's your experience with the deployment of SP3 using policy? Any issues? I'm looking for any information I can find as I have a deadline to do this by, but not enough time in a day to figure it out! :)

Thanks!

We have a tough time deploying SP3 in Altiris. There are the issues like you describe, multiple pemissions errors with registry, installer hangs on older machines.

Pretty much a pita which we either re-image the machines, or manually install the updates.

How are you executing the deployment? Via a start-up script? Log-in script? Using the MSI which the EXE extracts? Have you read the 'Package KB' notes?
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
