Note
The primary way to perform this install is to install WinZip to a network share and then install on clients using the "/autoinstall" switch from this network source ("networkdrive:\WinZip\WinZip.exe /autoinstall"). To install WinZip locally, first copy the source files to the local workstation and then follow this same process. This will install WinZip as if the "Express Install" option has been selected, which uses the default "classic interface". However there are other switches you may use instead of the "/autoinstall" switch to effect slightly different results:

/autoinstallrun - same as /autoinstall, and also runs WinZip.

/cleaninstall - same as /autoinstall, except that the standard WinZip program group and its included program items are not created

/cleaninstallrun - same as /cleaninstall, and also runs WinZip.

If you wish to follow up this installation with further modifications The primary registry key used is HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Nico Mak Computing/WinZip. Some subkeys of this registry key are mirrored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Nico Mak Computing/WinZip.

Under Windows NT and 2000, a full WinZip install must be performed by an account with Administrator or Power User privileges. Any program using a shell extension like this one will require these privileges. Also be sure to include a shortcut in the "All Users" profile, as by default the shortcut is generated only for the installing account's profile.

If WinZip's user registry settings are not preserved between sessions, WinZip may repeat the installation process again and again. To avoid this, you may create a file called, "AUTOINST.TXT" and place it in the WinZip folder. This file should be a plain text file and must contain the exact phrase, "I agree to the WinZip Computing License Agreement". By including this file in this way, WinZip will silently re-create the required registry information needed each time it is not already present, instead of relaunching the setup wizard to gather the information.

One final note: If you are installing WinZip 8.0 and have a previous version already installed, it is recommended that you first uninstall the previous version and delete any files in the WinZip program folder. If you are trying to automate this process as well, deleting the WZSHLEXT.DLL file should be sufficient in lieu of actually removing the previous version of WinZip.

If installing WinZip 6.3 (the latest version for Windows 3.x) keep in mind that the "/cleaninstall" switch works but not the others. Finally it has no support for the AUTOINST.TXT feature.
