Duplicate Application Name
Hi,
In SCCM 2012, I want to set the standard to ensure all Applications (Not Packages) are named appropriately to the allocated fields configured.
I have noticed that Applications do not cater for duplicate name fields. A Microsoft UI error shows "Applications Names Must be Unique".
Now there are articles showing that you can have multiple deployment types but you can deploy/advertise a deployment.
Additionally, if you have different major versions would that mean that the Application property would demonstrate, say 1.0 whilst the deployment type show 2.0??
Secondly, think about this, I have two packages called MyCompany ABC 1.0.0.1 and YourCompany ABC 1.0.0.1.
The MyCompany and YourCompany is the manufacturer and ABC is the productname and the version of course.
Well both these packages could not be configured in the correct format of "Applications".
I am sure that this was a problem with packages in SMS 2003 which was addressed for SCCM 2007 - has this gone backwards or I am wrong?
My solution is to have the entire Application of manufacturer, product name and version in the product name field to ensure the Application name is unique.
I guess that reporting will be easier to navigate but I am sure that is what Microsoft did not initially intend for?
Anyone else experience simular issues with Applications in SCCM 2012?

Sorry - SCCM 2012 - Not SCCM 2007 and I am specifically talking about Applications and Not Packages. As you mentioned, you can have duplicated packages but not applications. The message is that Applications names must be Unique. - tron2ole 10 years ago
