Enabling Bitlocker on Windows 7

Hi,

Currently we have bitlocker enabled on Windows 7 machines on our machine for C; drive.
Just wanted to check whether there are any additional benefits of extending the protection to D: drive as well and encrypting it.
If we enable bit locker protection only on C: drive, in the event of loss of laptop is there any risk of D; drive data being accessed if bit locker is not enabled.

If data security is a priority then bit locking D drive is a must.

In your current use case above, you can still access the D drive buy removing the hdd/ssd and plugging it into another system.

  • Thanks for the update. So as i understand, in my current scenario no one can use the hdd and boot from it but if it is connected as external drive, the contents of d drive can be accessed.
Please do share if you have any links or references on the above. - vk1231 7 years ago

If the D: drive does not have bitlocker enabled on this, then the drive itself is not encrypted and can be accessed. The drive could be removed, or you could boot from a USB OS and see the entire contents of the drive.
Having bitlocker enabled on C: will have no material impact on the D: drive.
