We plan on releasing Secure Browser Firefox 4.0 around summer time. We are waiting to release Firefox 4.0, our Secure Browser IE6, and our Internationalization versions all at the same time.

Firefox is the best browser I have ever used

I am still running Firefox 3.6.15 on my Secure Browser. I tried to upgrade to 3.6.xx (I guess the "xx" was 20), but after downloading it, it asked me to restart Firefox. I did and received the message:
"Software update failed. The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.". I closed and reopened, and the message is the same. I restarted my computer and now each time I open Firefox, it first gives me the message of software update failure, after I click on the ok button, Firefox opens, but I still have the 3.6.15. Is there a way to make the update of Firefox?

I wouldn't be so eager to update away from 3.6 if I were you guys. My personal opinion is that FF ruined all the newer versions in a number of ways, the most noticeable being outrageous memory consumption.

FF won't even tell you anymore when an update is a new beta version, and you lose your most important addons, because the addon, writers can't keep up with the insane update pace of FF. As a web developer and sportswriter, FF 3.6 and the Bartab addon is all I need. I can have litterally hundreds of tabs up, and my CPU doesn't even know it.

3.6 is likely the best FF has ever had, with a couple of hundred tabs up right now, task manager says FF is using 71,204 K. It doesn't get any better than that.

Well, I not want to update to FF 4, but to 3.6.17 or 20. What I still habe is 3.6.15. I am able to download the newer version, but when it asks me to restart FF, I have the message:
"Software update failed. The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.". I closed and reopened, and the message is the same. I restarted my computer and each time I open Firefox, it first gives me the same error message. I put back the partition image I had burned before making this update. I use Windows 7 ultimate.

Hey EMN123. Look, I'll have to ask you some dumb questions to make sure of a couple of things.

1) I assume you're uninstalling Firefox inside the control panel before downloading another one, right?

2) When you did it, did you notice the small box you could put a check in to delete Firefox history? Did you delete the history?

3) When you first downloaded Dell Secure browser, did it download as 3.6, or any other version, like 3.615?

Let me know, and I'll tell you what it suggests to me. (then I'll explain better why you probably should not even be running 3.6.15, or anything past 3.6) ... (certainly not 2.0)

Thanks for reply. I have a file where I write the most important things I do on my computer (like updates, install something, burn software partition image or put the previous back, etc). So, I found the information that I installed Secure Broser Firefox 5.2.38325 with addons BrowserProtect, NoScript and WOT, February 2011. I not wrote the version of Firefox that was installed with that Secure Browser, but it sure was not the version that I have now. March came an update, it downloaded and told me to restart browser to install the update. It worked, that is when I had the version 3.6.15 installed. May came the message to update Firefox to 3.6.17 and I could not do it. That is when I receive the message "Software update failed. The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.".
No, I am not uninstalling Firefox inside the control panel before downloading the update. I tried this when I downloaded the version 4 and it was installed outsides Secure Browser. So I had my older Firefox inside Secure Browser and another installation of Firefox 4...something.

EMN123, let me put a message here for Trey who helps Dell here: Trey, jump in to help if you think you need to. I'll try to walk EMN123 back to a fresh Dell load. I'll holler if we get stuck somewhere.

Hey Emn123. At this point your Firefox is messed up & will have to be fixed. The only reliable way is to go into your control panel, pull up All Programs, look at the list. I learned the hard way that firefox should be uninstalled before ever loading Dell Secure Bowser, because different loads of firefox don't play well together, like bad children. If you had firefox installed before Dell, that's likely art of the problem.

You'll have to remove the new firefox stuff AND the Dell load and start over with a new Dell load, then you will be fine to start over. I've already had the problems, and done all that, I'll walk you through it.

First things first, you'll find Dell secure browser on the list near the top, and the Mozilla update below the Microsoft files, both have to be removed. You can't just remove the update, that will break Dell, the will be no firefox.exe file left. Besides, the update corrupted the original Dell firefox load. So un-install both, but follow the next instructions.

Firefox history has to be removed with a fresh Dell load, sorry. You'll have to reload your passwords but it can't be helped. When you click yes to uninstall Mozilla, find the little box to check to remove firefox history, click it. Proceed with the uninstall.

Now uninstall Dell Secure browser as well. Go back where we got the Dell secure browser & load a fresh copy, that's it. When you pull it up the first time it should say version 3.6. If you don't delete your FF history it will load as an updated version.

EM, let's make a deduction, Trey can step in if it's not true:

1) We loaded Dell secure browser because it will protect us from any and all Internet threats

2) Firefox, Adobe, whatever tell us we have to update for security reasons, because each and every update leads to a new security problem

DEDUCTION: We should NEVER feel that we have to update a fresh un-tainted Dell Kace Secure Browser load, because the very purpose of it, at the very core of it's being, is protection from all internet threats.

Think that over, see if you agree.

BTW, I use 3.6 professionally as a writer, I consider it the best version FF made. It was the last full version before 4/5/6.... 4/5/6 are bloated with features that try to assume what a dumb user needs, and then force it upon them.

Em, go ahead and your Dell reloaded, I'll check back on you. If we need Trey he'll find us.

I see that I forgot to tell that, when I had FF 4 installed plus the older version of FF inside SecureBrowser, I put the last image of partition C (software) back on my HD. This way I eliminated that double FF on my computer. Do you think that still I have FF messed up in my Secure Browser?
Each time I have a stable installation with all that MS updates, I make an image of my drive C (software partition) on my external HD, I then rename the file to something like 2011-09-15-WindowsImageBackup and include this name in that file that I have written my updates, so I always know what I have in the backup and can go back to a prior installation any time. The external HD I keep disconnected to avoid any virus mess with it.

Waiting for a good secure browser aswell, I am using one now in ie64. But i prefere firefox.

Currently doing some tasks in ie and the rest in firefox. :)

Thanks Magyver for your advice. Finally I could take the time to remove SecureBrowser and install it again. It comes with Firefox 3.6.13. Through menu Help/check for updates it downloaded Firefox 3.6.23. This time it installed fine, but there is a msg to update FlashPlayer. I clicked on the download, it downloaded Flashplayer 11.0.1.152. It begun to install, but then came an error message that it could not find the file on the download folder, and it was there. How do I now update Flash Player ?

You should be able to go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install it from there while in Secure Browser.

We will be releasing our final 3.6.x Secure Browser here shortly. It will contain 3.6.23 of Firefox, along with the latest version of Flash and Adobe Reader 9.4.

After this, will be be releasing a version of Secure Browser with Firefox 7.x.

Thanks TThomas. Is the printing problem also fixed in this new release? I still cannot use "print" from the "file" menu, even with the new installation I made today.

Firefox really works great for me. Can't wait for newer version to upgrade.

I went to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and this time I not had error msg, but I also not received any msg telling me that it is installed. Also it is not listed on my Control Panel/Programs and Features. Also, since I installed version 3.6.23 of FF, each time I run FF and each time I acces Youtube or some other sites, it opens that windows of Windows Installer and it keeps repeating and also positioned in front of what I want to watch or read. Why does this happen?

I had no other Plugins installed into Firefox when I did all this, it was a clean environment. No previous version of Firefox installed.

We are very close to finishing the last 3.6.x build of Secure Browser. It will be Firefox 3.6.23 with Adobe Reader 9.4 and the latest Flash Player available.

Thanks for your answer, I have Windows 7 Ultimate and each time I start SecureBroser, I have this repeating screen, the "Windows Installer" and the "Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003" with "gatering required information". It keeps repeating several times. And, when I open a link for youtube or a pdf file, I counted 20 times this 2 windows opening. When it finally stopped and I scrolled down the page (the pdf one), it begun all over again. I wonder why this is happening. I will put back the C drive image with the old version of Secure Browser with the 3.6.15 that not gave me this problem. I will use the old version until you have the new one released.

Would it be possible to include the Java Console 6.0.24 (or later) addon and the Firefox noscripts addon as well in that last 3.6.x build of Secure Browser?

Here all contributors give more helpful information about Firefox4. It helped me so much and I think it will help to many other people. Also it has more useful addons as like Firefox3 which is more used for its addons capability.

With chrome I have spent more time but never find it is more faster than Firefox. Also Firefox has lots of addons.
