I would like to know how the "Related Asset" section in the inventory (and asset) section works. K1000
What does the database 'key" on to show that items are related? Is there somplace to set this? I was hoping that if I entered the users for multiple assets that everything set up for one user would show up in the related assets section. Unfortunately it didnt work that way. Is anyone else using the "Related Assets" section?

When you relate another asset to the computer recored(ex. monitor, printer...etc) it will show up as a related asset to the computer asset.
Things assigned to a User shows up under Service Desk > User Tab > Click on username and at the bottom lists all the assets assigned to that user. This is different than relating an asset to another asset as my computer example above.
Ex. Computer A, Monitor A, Monitor B
You already have the computer table but you will need to create a Monitor Asset Type. Build your table out for the monitors and add data. If you want to assign a monitor to a computer you have to create a new line in monitor
Assigned to Computer >>>>>> Asset Computer>>>>>>>Save
So when you assign a monitor to a computer it will show up under related assets in Inventory when you open a machine and look towards the bottom.
What I have is a list of specific computers displaying under the "Asset" tab that have the asset type "Computer".
Under the "Asset Type - Computer", I have added a field called PhysLocation.
PhysLocation is an uploaded table of all physical locations in the organization uploaded as an "Asset Type- PhysLocation" with each PhysLocation having all of the fields one would expect such as Street address, bldg., floor, city, state, zip, etc.
I want to relate each computer asset to a specific physical location asset (each office/location). There are, of course, many OTHER assets that I wish to set relations between but do not see quite how this action is done.
The pretty poor documentation KACE provides does not tell one how, where, when, or why to actually SET an asset to become a "Related Asset" to a previously defined Asset Type.
I see no green "+" signs at the end of any line in the Computer asset type nor any hyperlink to do any such relating in any of the fields on the Asset Type page.
I have added a field to the Asset Type -Computer called PhysLocation from which the list of 57 locations can be picked from, but this still does not allow me to have the ability to "relate" one asset to another in the database sense of having a common field/key to relate the computer details table to the PhysLocations details table.
I am basically lost and am NOT a fan of the KACE documentation at ALL here. Most of the directions in the HELP function talk ABOUT how to do some action but not actually WHAT to do. Pretty thin support for what I still believe is or could be a powerful tool.
What am I missing here, please? Thanks. - PhilK 11 years ago
