Preinstallation task problem - Collect Computer Name

I'm working in virtualized env. and when try to migrate winXP VM to win7 with included preinstallation task - Collect Computer Name, it doesnt work... it stops right after message block "creating system structures"... then after a few minutes restarts and message appears "boot manager is missing"...

Without that task, everything works fine... I haven't touched the script... has anyone had this problem?

Have you tried these?  http://www.kace.com/support/resources/kb/article/Get-Set-ComputerName?action=artikel&id=1137

This is what we use, haven't had any problems with them yet.

    • E-mail KACE support to have an account created for you. If you're a KACE customer you should definitely have an account for downloading. I can't post those files any other way. - nheyne 10 years ago

The collect computer name task only works with images.

  • I've run some tests I can conifrm that "collect_comp_name" works for K-imaging method...not for WIM, which is understandable... - dlistar 10 years ago

This tool only work with images.
How about using wsname.exe, which can be used as post install task and can do much more (I really love it)
Only issue: not useable when the system has joined a domain.

Download it here:
