Solve for messy Software Catalog.
Hi ITNinjas.
I'm using KACE 10.1.99. Our IT Department has been using KACE for a number of years. We haven't been the best stewards of the data, though. I was able to clean up the Software listing, but the Software Catalog is just out of control.
What would be optimal is if I could completely wipe out the Software Catalog and then let it start repopulating. Then we could manage the catalog from there. I have 110K+ pieces of software in the Catalog so a script would be optimal but I'm not above doing it by hand. I did Software by hand and that was 95k items.
Thanks.

Ironically I think you will find that your KACE SMA downloads the complete software catalog every night, so if you are thinking about deleting it you will still find it being refreshed and repopulated.
To understand the process, the catalog downloads and the software listing in inventory then distills down in comparison with the downloaded catalog and populates the software catalog tab with discovered, not discovered etc.
you can’t really get off the “hamster wheel” or restart but what you can do is to cut down the view in the software catalog tab. In the choose action menu you will find options to exclude software from the compliance view or compliance reports, so you could remove every item of software from the view and then start to add back in the products that you want to manage, which although is a load of work, may actually be what you are looking for.

So there is no way to delete what is there now? Even if it repopulates tonight? - christameck 4 years ago
Just asking?
Or we talking about wiping the whole discovered software list? - Channeler 4 years ago
I would like to completely wipe out that entire Software Catalog (Discovered, Not Discovered, Uncataloged) and start over with a clean slate.
Ours has gone on for 7 years without ever being managed. It would be best if we could start over and manage it from here. Alternatively, I'll clean it up by hand but I need to know how to delete things from it. - christameck 4 years ago
