Cloning to a different hardware
Hi,
Good Morning.
I have a laptop(older hardware 5 years old) which needs to be upgraded to a latets model. But the user needs ALL (absolutely 100%) the settings and applications to be exactly similar to the old laptop. So I'm planning to use a cloning software which can do cloning across different hardware. I can install few drivers manually if needed. But at the end all the applications and their settings need to be exactly similar to the olde laptop. I'm tetsing Ghost and acronis now. Please let me know if there are any other ways to achieve this.
Thanks for your help.

It would be useful to know if you use a product such as Altiris Deployment solution, as this could be used to do what you are after. If not, I agree with spottedcoin in that the best way to take/backup the image of the machine in order to migrate to a different platform would be to use Microsoft's Sysprep.
Note, you should only Sysprep the machine prior to migration as all references to hardware are removed as part of the process - hence forcing the installation of drivers etc.
Sysprep is a powerful tool, I'd recommend you do a bit of reading....
