Does anyone use RIS for the OS + SP and push everything else out by GP?

Plus do you do it in a frame environment? My boss wants us to make this happen. Currently we're using RIS to push a complete image out but he wants to just do the OS and push all the software out aftewards. Is he asking too much in a frame environment? Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean by a frame environment. But, we do this. The only thing we load is the OS and drivers. Everything else is GPO.

We use RIS to deploy HAL based images then use SMS to install all the base applications i.e. Office and SUS keeps the clients current.

We also use RIS to deploy a 'fully loaded' Ghost image for speedy packaging purposes.

Works well, however I am thinking about using a Ghost image of the base OS for offline or standalone builds.

I am in the process of moving my company to a RIS/GPO setup. Base OS, as current as patches can be, then push out any software needed. It is working quite nicely, too bad nobody else in the company understands how it works or appreciates it, they will miss me when I am gone...
