how can i create a ghost boot disk that creates a random machine name each time it boots? so that i can reimage/ghost more than one PC on that LAN at a time

Have it assign dchp IP addresses instead of a static IP address, then you can do this, I am unsure about how your image is setup so the machine name question is unanswerable, how you should be doing it is to use a sysprep image then you will have to enter it manually, or use RIS in windows 2000 and have it assign what ever you like.

I think you can get a random machine name by editing a line in your sysprep.inf file. In the [UserData] section, change the Computer Name line as follows:

ComputerName="*"
