How do i set up a test enviroment for my SCCM images using PE in Hyper-V

Hello,

im trying set up a test environment, specifically trying to image a VM using SCCM2012 R2 and a local installation of hyper v on my workstation

I created a new virtual hard disk with my PE media inside, but when I boot off of it from my VM I receive an error from the PE environment immediately.

"Unable to read task sequence configuration disk. for more information contact your system administrator or helpdesk operator."

when I hit F8 I see that there is no network information assigned via IPCONFIG. do I need to inject some sort of driver into my boot image for this to work? I am using a GEN 2 VM so the legacy NIC situation shouldn't apply here.

I would very much appreciate any assistance.

Please try to use Hv Manager provided by Apreltech.

Hv Manager is an easy-to-use management solution for Hyper-V servers. It provides the main functionality of the Windows Hyper-v manager over the web interface. Hv Manager can be installed on a server with an enabled Hyper-v role, including Server Core. The web interface enables you to access virtual machines from any OS platform and device.

Correct! I think, sounds like you need to add the NIC support to the PE image. Google says:

Remember to get the correct bitness drivers, I think you want mainly 32bit, since a 32bit PE can support 32 and 64bit imaging.

My build corp build skills are as old as the hills now, so I could be wrong but I think your on the right path.

  • thanks, im pretty familiar with this method. as it relates to my scenario, I don't think this will help. my issue has more to do with a conflict between my virtual environment and the media I am booting off of.

    my host machine is using a NIC that I know is present in my boot image. however, im not sure if some sort of virtual NIC driver will be necessary too. im not having mich luck finding info for this on the web for the newer gerneration Hyper-V VM's - pmac@ball 9 years ago
