SCCM 2012 SP1 unable to connect to WSUS

Hello,

I have a SCCM 2012 Sp1 enviroment with WSUS installed on the same server, it is a 2012 server. When I connect the SCCM install to the WSUS instance this is what I get:  WSUS Configuration Manager failed to subscribe to update categories and classifications on WSUS Server "SERVERNAME".

Possible cause: WSUS Server version 3.0 SP2 or above is not installed or cannot be contacted.

Enviroment notes: SCCM 2012 Sp1 runs on a 2012 server with WSUS role installed. SQL instance is SQL 2008 R2 Standard SP2.

That error is pointing to a w2k8 server issue. :/ Does anyone have any ideas on this? Has anyone seen this before?

have you installed both of the following two updates?
