SMS deploying package to non-targetted collection

Guys,

Got a weird one here - never seen anything like it before and just about to leave for the day....

I've advertised a package to a collection which populates from a query based on AD group membership for computers.

The AD group is empty, and therefore the collection is empty.

I've checked the advert and it shows that it's deploying the package to the correct collection.

If I drill down the SMS reports for the advert - it's deploying to the whole of the desktop estate!!!!!

I've disabled the program for now - so it shouldn't hit any more machines (any more than the 500 odd that already copped for it).

Tomorrow I will target an uninstall to the those that have installed it and clean everything up.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this before, and what could have caused it - I'm assuming it's a database issue, but won't know more until tomorrow.

Thanks,

Dunnpy

Just to update you all...

Database checks showed no errors, reboot didn't make a difference.

Ran site repair wizard, said I didn't have a backup (don't ask!) and told it the last day it was working correctly.

Still had the 'empty' collection and a report quoting 3000 machines targetted.

Deleted and re-created the advert - appears to be working okay.

Weird.. very weird.

Thanks,

What did your query look like?

I also ran into a situation once where moving an advertisement between groups while leaving "Include members of subcollections" enabled would deploy to everything. Microsoft said that it was due to the database not responding to the move request quickly enough, thus showing the advertisement briefly as assigned to the top-level collection.

Joe,

It wasn't the collection - I left that intact, deleted and recreated the advert and all was well again.
The advert was only set up for that collection and not moved.

Thanks,

Dunnpy
