First post need suggestions......

Hi all.

I have searched for this( but being a closet blonde, found nothing)

I am a newbie to the world of windows and desktop support.
Officially I am a Field services engineer ,But my actual work includes network admin, server admin, desktop support, appdeployment printer servicing, Blackberry admin( Both BES and Handset) etc.

A jack(off) of all trades . Master of none.

I am trying to get the jump here on how best to educate myself on packaging installers for my job, But am being a little over whelmed by some of the jargon, process etc that I see here. I am confident that with a little insight from all who have the time to make suggetsions taht i will be able to self educate and make the jump to understanding what I read here on this site a little better.

I have a brief history with the Windows and indeed enterprise computing, Having started my curent role at new years this year.( I used to mix TV shows/FIlms and music albums.
So: Where do I go to get the scoop on this. Is there a "dummies" equivalent i can start with..I am beginning to experiment with VMwatre for the first time so i am making leaps and bounds into understanding how to mod OS's etc. And I figure that this can also extend into helping me with the repackaging of installers etc, At least help me understand how to best manipulate them in such a fashion to best serve my needs in a day to day fashion.

So while my direct experience inthe world of IT equates to very little, I am very motivated and even at least of average intelligence.
So where do I best start?

Can anyone suggest ( aside from lurking here) other places or sources of info that will best serve me to better understand that which I read here?

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Hi TK

Currently on the engagement I am on, we use none.

Yep, Sad to report , but all is done manually.

This is why I am trying to get a wee bit ahead of the antiquated methods and start the road to working smarter, Rather than harder.

I lurk here, But much of what I read is Out of context as I lack the necessary understanding.

I guess a FAQ or Dummies etc , Basically a finger or fingers pointing to some sort of resource is what I need.

But a v e r y b a s i c source to start with.:-)

Hi TK...

I have been lurking and reading through posts and FAQs (since my original, premature post) Most of this is still way above my meagre understanding, as I have been on the windows world a whole 6 months now. ( A looooong time Mac user tho, So I can still leverage of that knowledge)

I have been speaking to one of the 3rd tier desktop guys who also works in same company as I and he has indicated that a few conversations between him and I will go a long way in pointing out what it is I will need to study/do to get the foundations to take full advantage of the info here.

But thank you for your link, I will make good use of the resources here and in time will be able to take advantage of the information contained therein..

Have a sweet weekend TK
