How do you generally deploy C++ (any version) runtimes via Active directory / GPO
I am trying to provide explicit documentation for a customer on how to deploy our application and I can't seem to find any best practice or information on how people would normally deploy pre-requisites. I managed to make a distribution point for VC runtimes 2008 but I can't get an admin install of 2010 to work (It complains of missing files). Every article I find seems to just have silent command line instructions.
Does anyone use an admin install to a distribution point then a standard GPO install to distribute the C++ runtimes?

Good luck with that. Each install of each version all seem to behave differently (depends on the developer who created the original package). Some copy files local, some run from the source directory. Some are replaced by MS patches (for example MS09-035 and MS11-025). Some MSI's are poorly packaged and may not work well with an MST so you may consider using a seconday MSI to modify the original install. I think your going to have a hard time writing 1 docoment to cover all the versions.
