Installing Google Apps Desktop Shortcuts
Hi, I've been fighting this for a day or so, but I hope this might be useful if anyone else has the pleasure (!) of trying to roll out google apps shortcuts and chrome using AD GPOs.
The msi available for chrome doesn't work with the goggle apps desktop shortcuts, so I had to install on a per user basis in to the users profile.
To get the right exe I downloaded chrome from google.com/chrome and then caught the secondary chrome_installer.exe which gets downloaded in the background. Using a script to push that at user login seemed to do the trick and because it installs in the user profile there's no permissions issues.
The shortcuts you can get from the google apps dashboard in the googleappsstandalonesetuptagged.exe file. You can install these using a computer GPO and they should then work fine with the chrome install as above.
I realise this isn't elegant and there may be a smarter way of doing it but this got me out of a hole at fairly short notice. I hope it might save someone else some time
