SMS 2003 errors since October Microsoft Patches

WEIRD - since the October updates, my workstations WMI repository has corrupted, requiring the repository be deleted and a reinstall of the SMS client.

In the SMS admin console on my workstation (or on the SMS server, even), MSI files are no longer recognized. When trying to create a package from an MSI file - the Create Package from Definition Wizard errors with:

"The file you have selected is an invalid Package Definition File. Please select a valid file."

I've had a number of issues with WMI repositories on Advanced clients becoming corrupted. I had to create a script to repair them. It stops the WMI service, renames the Repository folder under the WBEM directory, then restarts the WMI service. Then initiates a repair on the SMS Advanced client. Fortunately enough for us we have another software distribution method (BigFix) that we use to deploy this script (since the corrupt SMS clients can't talk to site server). If you do not have an alternate means of software distribution, you could run the script inside an .msi and deploy via GPO. As for the issues with the console (or using the console on the server), did you do a site backup b/f the patch was applied? Maybe you can restore it to it's previous state (b/f the patch was applied)?
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
