Website unavailable during certain times

Dear admin,

I've noticed that appdeploy becomes unavailable around 9:00 to 10:00 AM (GMT+1). And I had some trouble connecting a few minutes ago as well 17:40 PM (GMT+1). The first mentioned times occur pretty much daily.

Are you running a backup at those times by any chance?

Hope you can fix it.

Cheers,

I don't see anything obviously wrong that would cause what you are reporting, but I'd sure like to get to the bottom of it. What kind of problems do you see? Is the site slow or do you see errors reported? Does it seem to happen every day? I assume other websites are still responsive during this time and that it is not a local problem.

Does anyone else see site problems around this timeframe?

Thanks for working with me on this!

Good morning bkelly,

This issue occurs (at least) every morning around 9 AM (GMT+1, thats when I come into work) and it lasts mostly to 10 AM (GMT+1). This morning it lasted untill a couple of minutes before this post (10:28 AM GMT+1).

- Checked other websites. - Everything works.
- Checked DNS. - This was fine.
- Checked FTP to www.appdeploy.com - Available
- Checked HTTP (with telnet / browser). - Unavailable -> timeout.

I've also noticed the same timeout around 5 PM GMT+1.

There are only 5 logged in users currently.

Hope this information might help solving the problem (it is a bit annoying ;)

Thank you for the details. I don't see anything locally on the server that exposes any problems so I'm having the hosting provider look into it now.

Anyone else having a similar experience?

I don't see a lot of users when the website becomes available to me at around (10 AM GMT+1), but could it be that there are too many connections (your http server might be capped to a limited amount of connections?)

Logs show traffic is pretty low then; I'm fairly sure it is some network intensive operation taking place at the hosting facility but I have not gotten to the bottom of it yet. I'm sure something can be done, I'll let you know when I have something useful to share.

Thanks,
Bob

Frank,

Next time you see this happening, please run "tracert www.appdeploy.com" and paste the results here.

Thanks a lot!

I will do this tomorrow Bob,

I've noticed twice that the first request during the previous mentioned times will result in a response. A second request will timeout, until around 10 / 10.30 AM GMT+1.

I'll keep you posted.

I appreciate your help in identifying this.

Can anyone else confirm they see the same?

Thanks again,
Bob

I will see if I can verify those time frames tomorrow.

Bob,

I checked the tracert today and compared it to the one I made yesterday (when everything was fine..). They show no difference (as I already expected a bit). Since I can reach the FTP site, I don't think it is a routing problem (unless FTP and HTTP are not on the same box).

Last routes of the tracert are:
[hr] 15 158 ms 158 ms 159 ms uni-marketing-alliance.demarc.cogentco.com [38.104.76.58]
16 160 ms 161 ms 161 ms 216-10-250-5.mysite4now.com [216.10.250.5]
17 160 ms 160 ms 161 ms 66.226.22.240
[hr]
I checked again this morning for what I noticed yesterday and it happened again. First request was fine (fast as well), the second request timed out. 45 minutes later I had the same issue. The issues stopped around 11:00 AM GMT+1.

Believe me, I'm trying. The hosting provider has been difficult to work with (we are considering moving elsewhere). I've been passing the information you provided but they are telling me nothing is happening to explain the problem. Obviously not satisfied with that response, I'm continuing to push. I think we will uncover the issue, but I'm sure it won't be a quick process. Thanks for bearing with me!

Sorry but I havn't been able to verify the time frame from my current project location due to their slow outbound network connection, guess it's due to the proxy/firewall configuration.

Bob,

Could you check with the DBAs that there are no database maintenance during this time.

The SQL server is locally installed on the same server; it is a potential issue but the database is not so large that a nightly backup would take more than a minute or two-- nothing to explain a whole hour outage yet. I know you can't check Kim, but if anyone else out there can report the same issue it would be helpful to have the verification.

Thanks all!

Though I can't give you a reliable verification it seems hard to get a connection from 9:00 to 10:00 AM (GMT+1), I often get unreachable jaddi jadd. After that time I'm able to reach the message board. Sometimes it's possible to go to www.appdeploy.com but not to any forum under Message Board.

Hope that helps in any way.

I noticed I was unable to access this website this afternoon.

But seems to have cleared up now... thought I'd mention it.

Thank you for the note. Things have gotten much worse with the server and we are getting regular outages now. The good news is I have a couple of quotes out for new hosting providers and the plan is to move AppDeploy within the next week or two. In the meantime, I have to keep restoring the server when I see it has failed.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
