Back up or export K1000 components

Is there any way to back up individual components on the K1000? I'm going to start working on Asset Mgmt pretty seriously. If I get several days down the road in AM configuration and then decide that I need to revert to the configuration from 5 days ago, I don't want to also revert Tickets, software library, etc.

If there's no way to do that, does anyone have a good process for building and testing individual components? We're running 6.3 on a hardware appliance.

Thanks.

The best way is to take a backup which you can then revert to if you decide to do so, or snapshot if you are on a virtual platform. You will not be able to export anything Asset related as a resource within the K1000. The most volatile area that you may then need to restore will be the Service desk and you will be able to export and reimport the queues as resources.

I would not worry too much bout working within the Asset area, you will be able to remove assets, asset types and relationships if you no longer require them. The most important area of Asset is the Asset history and if you have only been using assets for a short while that will not hold too much value.

If you need any Asset specific guidance please feel free to get in touch

  • Thanks, Hobbsy. I hear ya. My main concern is just that there is going to be a lot of hit and miss on setting up AM because of the disparity of current records, but we'll just take it slow and export existing assets into excel every so often. - tpr 9 years ago
