k1000 Wake on lan issues - Very weird

Hi so not sure when it started occurring but basically wake on lan no longer works through kace unless the PC has been turned on in the past 20 minutes. once it gets over that 20 minute mark it just won't started up.

however another tool called WakeMeOnLan works regardless of how long the PC has been turned off. I turned off a machine Friday and woke it when i got into the office this morning. But that same PC after being left for 3 hours won't turn on this afternoon with Kace.

i'm not sure entirely what the difference between kace and the software are but I can't figure out why one works flawlessly and the other doesn't.

BIOS, network card are all configured correctly (otherwise it wouldn't wake at all)

so any ideas? has a recent update changed something i've not noticed?

  • I haven't kept up with the K1000 WOL, but I read in the past that the K1000 WOL implementation relies on the computer mac address needing to be in the ARP table on the router in order to wake up the PC. - flip1001 6 years ago

If another tools wakes the PC and KACE does not...  better open a ticket with Support...

Provide them all details such as:

-Machine brand and model
-KACE appliance version
-KACE IP
-Target machine IP
-If the machine is on the same subnet or not.

depending on the version there are different procedures how WOL works.
- Check: If the ports 7 + 9 (depending on the version) open in the firewalls.
- are you using relay devices or the old option and subnet routing is active?
- is the NIC still powered?
- run wireshark to check if the magic package is sent or not

WIth this info you can open a ticket and the engineer will analyze (and if they see an issue escalate) the problem
