There are various tasks I need to perform against this data in an automated fashion. 1. For one, I need to create service desk tickets. 2. I will likely need to add inventory/associate a new piece of equipment with an existing owner. 3. Will need to subscribe to some service desk ticket events like created, edited, deleted, etc. Read access to this data has proven to be quite straight-forward. There is an API. I don't know that it's going to do everything you want it to though.
If you look at the Administrator Guide, chapter 7 is about adding devices using the API. It's also in the built-in help.
