Optiplex 760 - XP Image - Mouse/Keyboard don't work after imaging other desktop
I'm creating a simple XP image for about 100 machines, and for some reason every time we deploy the image to another Optiplex 760, the mouse/keyboard don't work the majority of the time. Sometimes it will work if we unplug/repllug in to many different ports - eventually it will work.
Any ideas? I've recreated the image from scratch twice, thinking it was something wrong with the first one. I'm not sure what the deal is, but it's annoying and people can't use the machines right after we image it because of this. We're normally a Windows 7 environment, so it already drives me nuts that we're not using 7 on these machines - so it could be an XP thing that I'm not aware of because 99% of our machines aren't on XP anymore.
Any suggestions/ideas would be helpful if anyone has seen this before.
Thanks & happy new year!

I suspect that the machine that was imaged had the (USB) mouse and keyboard plugged into certain ports and that the target machines don't have them plugged into the same ports. Doing what you said (unplugging the mouse/keyboard after imaging, then plugging them back in and letting Windows [re]install them) should do as a workaround, but to confirm this is the issue I'd try pushing the image to a machine with the same mouse/keyboard port config (assuming the same model) to see if this works and then again to a machine with the mouse/keyboard in different ports to see if this causes the issue to appear. At least this would isolate the cause.
Another idea would be to create a postinall task (script) to uninstall all of the USB drivers and reboot the machine to force them to reinstall. Not sure if this would work straight away without having to unplug/replug the devices, but worth a shot.
